
Fire crews contain recycling plant fire in South Valley
May 28, 2026Last week, we covered a fire at Albuquerque-based recycling company Town Recycling. On June 2, the facility caught fire again, sending a massive plume of smoke into the air and prompting a large emergency response.

Officials issued air quality warnings for nearby residents, advising people to stay indoors, keep windows closed, and avoid exposure to the smoke. The fire spread beyond recyclable materials and into structures on the property, with reports indicating that two nearby buildings were destroyed. Could THIA have prevented this fire?
